What counts as evidence of earnings for a creator? By country and use case
Creators paid by platforms rarely have a payslip, and most fan platforms do not issue anything that looks like one. The question that follows — what do I show a landlord, a lender, or an immigration officer instead? — comes up constantly in creator forums and is answered badly. Below is what gatekeepers in five jurisdictions usually ask for.
This page does not help produce any document. There is no letter generator, template or download here, and nothing on this site is intended to help anyone create, alter, backdate or re-word a record of earnings. It describes documents that already exist and who normally issues them.
The matrix
Gatekeeper columns describe practice commonly reported in threads and lender pages, not a rule.
| Use case | United States | United Kingdom | Canada | Australia | EU, generally |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Renting | Bank statements plus last filed return; some ask for the Schedule C | Bank statements; SA302 and tax year overview | Bank statements; notice of assessment | Bank statements; notice of assessment (unverified) | National tax assessment plus bank statements (unverified, varies) |
| Mortgage | One to two years of filed returns, often with an IRS tax return transcript | SA302 and tax year overview, usually two to three years | Notices of assessment, usually two years | Notices of assessment (unverified) | Tax assessments plus accountant statement (unverified, varies) |
| Car or consumer loan | Filed return or several months of bank statements | Bank statements or SA302 | Notice of assessment or bank statements | Bank statements (unverified) | Varies by lender (unverified) |
| Visa or immigration | Filed returns and IRS transcripts | Whatever the route's own document list specifies | Proof of income statement (option C print) (unverified for this use) | Route-specific document list (unverified) | Route-specific; set nationally (unverified) |
| State benefits or means-tested aid | Recent bank statements, self-employment records, last return | Self-employment records reported to the benefit body | Proof of income statement | Reported income records (unverified) | Set nationally (unverified) |
| Business bank account | ID and entity paperwork; earnings often not asked at all | ID and business details | ID and business details | ID and business details (unverified) | ID and business registration (unverified) |
The documents behind those cells
- US. A tax return transcript or tax account transcript is free from the IRS through an individual online account, by phone, or by mail on Form 4506-T. Platforms that pay US creators may issue a Form 1099-NEC, which reports nonemployee compensation; a Form 1042-S reports US-source income paid to a foreign person.
- UK. The SA302 tax calculation and the tax year overview are described by GOV.UK as evidence of earnings, commonly requested on self-employed mortgage applications. They cover the last four tax years and are not available until 72 hours after a return is submitted.
- Canada. The notice of assessment summarises an assessed return. The proof of income statement (the "option C print") is a plainer version of the same assessment, available in a CRA account or by mail, and the CRA itself lists loans and benefit applications as typical uses.
- Australia and the EU. The Australian equivalent is the notice of assessment, and most EU states issue a comparable annual assessment. We could not open the official pages for these on this pass, so those cells are marked unverified rather than guessed.
Which platforms publish an earnings statement
Very few. As checked in August 2026: OnlyFans has no published export, only an on-screen payout ledger, and issues a 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC to US creators. Fansly's own help centre describes an on-screen earnings view with no download step, and issues one consolidated 1099-NEC per taxpayer ID. JustFor.Fans makes its 1099 available on request, US only. LoyalFans has no documented export, and Fanvue has none documented either (unverified). Patreon publishes earnings, withdrawal-history, transaction and tax CSV downloads in its Payouts documents tab. Twitch does publish downloadable payout reports (unverified). Chaturbate, ManyVids and Gumroad were not checked for this page.
The practical consequence: for most creators the exportable record is the bank statement, not the platform.
What creators report
Forum threads are consistent, and paraphrased here without usernames. A dancer asking how to prove income for a car loan found that replies said the lender reads the filed return and nothing else (thread). A UK creator applying for a first mortgage described the tension between the tax return's job description and what a lender wants to know (thread). Someone on state aid described having to supply a proof of income at every cash-out (thread). And the recurring rental question is simply which document to send and how much to disclose (thread).
Nothing here is tax or legal advice, and no part of it says what anyone should file or claim. For that, ask a qualified professional in your own country.
